PostHeaderIcon Five Ways of Beating the Big Guys at Online Advertising

Whether you use the term search engine marketing, advertising, online advertising, banner advertising or pay per click advertising, there is a common misconception by owners of new websites that the best way to get noticed is to jump in with both feet and immediately compete with the big boys of advertising.

This thinking has left many would-be online entrepreneurs frustrated and feeling like their product or service is either inadequate or the cost barrier associated with marketing it is just too high. These misconceptions bear very little resemblance to the truth. There are several reasons why new Internet ventures fail to gain the attention they deserve. To all the early stage would-be success stories, I offer five pieces of solid advice.

(1-Dont Be Too Eager To Directly Compete With The Big Boys -) Competing with the big boys is definitely the future goal of any business, but it must be done in a smart way. Much like a prize fight, the challenger should have a few victories before declaring an all out battle with the big boy of the industry. If you have a large ego and that statement offends you, you are exactly who I am writing to.

The big boys are called the big boys because they have a financial advantage. Dont allow your pride to cause you to make ill-advised decisions. Be smart. If you cant out bank roll them, out think them and out maneuver them. By that I mean, dont attempt to advertise on the same websites and in the same way as they do. You probably cant afford it anyway. We choosing your initial advertising spots, choose smaller websites that are looking for advertisers. They are usually much cheaper and allow you to determine what works for your particular product marketing. While you may only get fifty to one hundred visitors per month from a lower traffic website, it allows you to grow unhindered, under the radar of larger more competitive firms.

(2- Avoid Depending On Advertising Auto Pilot Too Soon-) The mind frame that you can simply set your advertisement in place and watch the dollars roll in holds true for very few early stage websites and products. That tactic works best once you have created a flawless website sells interface. It needs to be a fool proof and proven path to buying your product.

Despite what you think, you dont know that you have a smooth buying interface until your customers have tested it. Buy buying interface I dont just mean credit card processing. It includes the wording and the pages that lead to the credit card processing as well.

Remember, it is not enough for you to be impressed with your web property. Spend time early-on finding out what your customers think. Doing this can prevent lots of frustration and confusion, while increasing your websites ability to make sells earlier. There are web services that allow you to ferret out any problem with your website and advertise really easily. I will speak more about this later.

(3- Avoid Blindly Following Other Advertisers -) Advertising method saturation is when so many people are doing the same thing that only the big guys benefit on a large scale. Dont get caught up in the me-tooism of advertising by only using the advertising methods currently being used by big companies. This has doomed would-be success stories more than anything.

As a particular advertising method becomes more popular, the price of using it typically goes up. This is simply due to the rules of supply and demand. Get a bunch of people wanting the same thing and bid wars begin. You have to be innovative and embrace new types of advertising early. New ways of advertising and marketing spring up all of the time. For instance, advertising in online games like Typobounty dot com puts you in a high traffic area with better quality visitors that want to read your entire site.

(4- Initially Focus On Quality Rather Than Quantity-) Quality of visitors is much more important than quantity of visitors. I am not so much referring to the targeting of a particular demographic. I mean a person that is ready to buy and able to buy is more desirable than a click through by someone that has none of these traits. I mean, think about it. The term (visitor) has lost its meaning in online advertising.

Some webmasters believe that every click though is a visitor. Not so fast. Let me ask you something. If you drove from Galveston Texas to Dallas Texas, would you say that you visited Houston Texas? No! Most sane people would say that they passed through Houston on their way to Dallas. Stopping for fuel does not constitute visiting Houston.

When a potential customer comes to your website, skims over its content, and then leaves, the shear fact that your content didnt catch their eye and slow them down, fueled their desire to go elsewhere for what they are looking for. Dont let your website be a gas station for web surfers. The object is to get potential customers to stop and focus on your websites content. Not simply to pass through on their way to buy a product. Incorporating your advertisement into online games gives visitors the incentive to stop and read every word of a websites sales pitch.

(5- Make Every Advertising Penny Benefit Your Business In Some Way -) It is a simple principle of business. In order to succeed at whatever your organizations goal may be, you must take more money in than you put out. Sure, some would conclude that I have simply stated the obvious, but I disagree.

If it were obvious, there wouldnt be so many marketers doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Stop solely depending on the hit or miss arena of pay per click. When your advertising budget is small, pay per click is not your friend.

Early on, find low cost monthly fee advertising opportunities and scoop them up. Game sites like TypoBounty dot com allow advertisers to draw attention to their products while simultaneously cleaning up their website errors. So, every visit ends in a sell, helps the site become better or confirms that everything is in order. That is making every advertising penny count towards the success of your business.

PostHeaderIcon Advertising Online – The Online Advertising Surge

There are many advantages of online advertising. The biggest advantage and probably the most important is that you are able to reach a world wide targeted audience, whereas local ads may not be seen by everyone and the audiences are much smaller. Because of the ability to reach a bigger audience, advertisers are more likely to use the online advertising option.

Because you can reach so many people with online advertising, you will see more interesting ads. Companies are always thinking about new ways to capture an audience. You may think that television advertising has a bigger audience, but in all reality the internet has taken over. Because you can adjust your search options and cater them to your needs, you don’t have to see ads you may have already seen whereas on television you have to see the ads every 10 minutes. This can actually turn people off.

What you need for online advertising

In order to do advertising online, you can have a web page that will have your ad on and can be SEO ready to appear in search engines. There are many services that can create press releases that provide an advertising announcement of your service. Also, companies use survey sites to entice you to view their ads and answer questions about the ad you have just seen. If advertising online fits your needs for a huge audience, you can check with many advertising companies that already promote a similar service.

How online advertising has changed small business marketing

The answer to this question has been ‘yes’ for many years now. Small businesses have the ability to use online advertising and reach many people that they would not have the resources or capital to do anywhere else. For the price of a web site and some simple SEO techniques, you can get your message out to billions verses thousands. Advertising online has become a tool for the small business owner.

The small business owner has been able to earn more income because of the ability to advertise online. This can account for the success of many businesses that would have been shut down because of lack of customers. There are some ways to advertise online and join forces with other web sites to raise income. The internet providers pay per click links; this enables you to make money when someone clicks the pay link from your web page. This is just one of the ways to increase sales and make some extra money. Perhaps advertising online might make paper ads obsolete in the future!

Summary:

The advertising world has changed since the introduction of online advertising. Small businesses that may not have been able to survive without costly advertising can now reach millions of customers through advertising online.

PostHeaderIcon The Benefits of Advertising on Craigslist

Savvy businesspeople and Internet marketers who market on Craigslist are able to gain a great deal of benefits from this advertising option. Craigslist is an online community where users can exchange information, buy or sell items, seek jobs or even find friends or romantic partners. There are a number of benefits to advertising on Craigslist. Two of the most important benefits are the affordability and the ability to reach a large audience. This article will focus on these two benefits and will also offer advice on ensuring your advertising is not just reaching a large audience but is reaching your target audience.

The Price is Right

Consider the cost of advertising on Craigslist versus advertising on other websites and there is simply no comparison. The vast majority of Craigslist postings are available free of charge to those who use the website. Only a limited number of advertisements including job advertisements in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York and brokerage listings in New York are charged a fee for posting advertisements. Even these advertisers are only charged a nominal fee for their advertisements.

This means all commercial advertisements for products and services are posted free of charge. Affiliate marketing, which offers business owners the ability to only pay the affiliate when the advertisement generates web traffic, a sale or a lead is an excellent bargain but even that is no match for the free advertising offered on Craigslist. Advertising on Craigslist becomes even more financially appealing in comparison to other advertising option where the business owner is charged for each time the advertisement appears whether or not it results in a sale being made or even a lead generated.

Reaching a Large Audience with Craigslist

In addition to affordability another benefit to advertising on Craigslist is the potential to reach a large audience. Craigslist receives approximately four billion page views per month from approximately ten million website visitors. This is appealing because it allows users to reach a large audience with only minimal effort.

Craigslist already has a large following and many Internet users already turn to Craigslist for whatever they are looking for before searching other resources. Having such a large audience means half of the work is already done for advertisers. They already have high traffic to the website, now they just need to write an eye catching and engaging advertisement that will attract customers.

A Large Audience is Not Necessarily a Target Audience

Craigslist certainly has a large pre-existing fan base of regular users but this large audience does not necessarily ensure advertisers will have a target audience just waiting for them to post their advertisement. Craigslist is an extensive online community and finding members of the target audience is more important than reaching the entire community.

Business owners can certainly invest a great deal of time and effort placing their advertisement throughout the different sections of the website but this is not likely to be effective. Craigslist is divided into a number of different sections and categories for a specific reason. This is to make it easier for users to find the information they are seeking. For this reason business owners should focus on placing their advertisement in sections which are likely to be visited by members of the target audience. Additionally, placing advertisements in multiple sections may result in the moderators of Craigslist interpreting the advertisements as spam and deleting them. Whether the advertisements are deleted as spam or rendered ineffective they are not likely to convince members of the target audience to purchase products or services.

PostHeaderIcon Make the Best of Advertising on the Internet

There has never been any confusion about the importance of advertising. Be it traditional media or on the Internet, for businesses to survive advertising has to be promoted. Not many of us realize that we are so accustomed to seeing advertising messages anywhere we look that we have become slightly immune to it. That, however, does not mean that the importance of advertising, online or offline has reduced. This only means that businesses will look for newer ways of catching their target market’s attention.

Online advertising can comprise of anything from things as simple as traditional banners, links and graphics to more advanced videos, flash files and other interactive messages. As it is, the Internet is full of messages of all kinds. For a regular Internet user it might be difficult to distinguish between the paid messages and unpaid messages. On the contrary, advertisers have never left anything to chance. If an ad appears on a certain website or a search engine results page, you can be sure that it has been placed there after research, planning and much deliberation.

Let us first look at online advertising in the same way we look at traditional advertising. Say, a company launches a new brand of soap. The company knows that everyone uses soap so there is not question of there being a lack of demand. Does that mean that they do not need to advertise? One does not need to be a marketing guru to know that advertising has less to do with demand and supply equations and more to do with making your brand’s presence felt. The same goes for Internet marketing. Yes, people search and could be lead to your site that way, but is that really enough? Internet advertising would be a more direct (and insistent) way of announcing your presence to your audience.

Changes in technology that the Internet has seen has had a direct impact on online advertising. A few years ago, most users had dial-up connections so even though advertisers were excited about having video and other rich format ads, it was not a practical decision. That has changed now. Most people are using faster connections which means advertisers can indeed use these various, more interesting types of ads.

The flipside of this, however, is that it also becomes very easy to get carried away with the technology that is available to advertisers these days. So you might view a captivating ad but if it does not provoke any kind of action, it might not be so effective after all. Making your ad eye-catching is important but that is not all it should be; there is something more important. Your ad should definitely tell your audience what they should do next.

Compared to traditional advertising, though, Internet advertising can be much more cost effective. This mainly has to do with the number of people that an online ad would reach. Due to this, the cost of reaching one person reduces greatly.

Those considering advertising on the Internet should be making careful, well-calculated decisions. Picking a web-development firm that will do justice to your product is essential. The kind of advertising you choose to do is also vital because it should be based on what you are trying to achieve. Understanding the setbacks and advantages of the type of advertising you choose is just as important. Pop-ups are largely ignored especially with specialized softwares that can block pop-ups. Banner ads also tend to get lost in the clutter of content on a web page.

Which brings us to the issue of the importance of a website. Internet advertising is only as good as the quality of your website. Imagine catching the attention of a potential customer and when he or she reaches your website, it does not have the kind of information that the customer might be looking for. Make sure that you advertisement is leading to a website that completes what the ad message was trying to do: getting your customer to act.

It has been said many times about advertising but it can’t be said enough times. An advertisement is only as good as the relevance of the media and the message. At the end of the day, it all has to come together in a way that makes sense to those who are being exposed to these messages. Online advertising offers a lot of possibilities and how well you use these possibilities is up to you.
